Councilman Nirenberg is declaring Friday, Dec. 16, 2016 as “Orange Friday” in support of the UTSA Roadrunners, who will be playing in their first Bowl Game at the Gildan New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the following day.

“A successful athletics program is incredibly important to the continued pursuit of Tier One status,” Nirenberg said. “The postseason bowl berth caps a meteoric rise for the young Division I football program and is easily the highlight of Frank Wilson’s first year as head coach.”

Councilman Nirenberg has teamed up with local chambers of commerce and UTSA to promote the Roadrunners, who will be playing the New Mexico Lobos on Dec. 17.

“We’re thrilled at the opportunity to represent the University and the City of San Antonio in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl,” said UTSA Football Coach Frank Wilson. “At the same time, we’re humbled to see the support from the City and community at large with the ‘Orange Friday’ promotion. For those who can’t make it to Albuquerque, we want you to wear your UTSA colors next Friday and show your support for the Roadrunners.”
